Genesis

During the international seminar of Millennia2015 on 21 November 2011 at the Ecole des Mines in Paris, Véronique Thouvenot, in the presence of Joan Dzenowagis (eHealth scientist at the World Health Organization), Claudio Giugliemma (president of the Dominic Foundation), Arletty Pinel (CEO of Genos Global) and Marie-Anne Delahaut (head and founder of Millennia2015), has created the Millennia2015 WeTelemed initiative.

The official launch happened on 19 April 2012 from the University of Technology in Panama, synchronised with the Destree Institute and the Grand Health Bazaar 2012 in Lagos, Nigeria, organised by LiveWell Initiative.

Objectives

The overall objective is to promote gender equality and women empowerment through the access and use of advanced technologies and Telemedicine combined with innovative integrated collaborative leadership programs.

And more specifically:
1. To support women's role and place, especially to the developing world, in the context of medical diplomacy as a framework for a Global Network of Women in Telemedicine;
2. To support Women Leaders to engage all generations to use tools in advanced technologies, to promote the access to Telemedicine to improve women's and family health;
3. To empower and actively support women health care professionals, leaders, and IT designers working in Telehealth and Telemedicine, at political, economic and social levels.

Methods and Results

WeTelemed will benefit of the methods of work in place at Millennia2015 and WeHealth, the prospective exercise and the 4-D Quality Analysis Model (4-D QAM), to collect information on women working in Telemedicine, stimulate interactions and increase the number of proficient women in the provision of telemedicine and/or telemedicine services.

With the support of WeLUCY Digital Inclusion platform  dedicated to women, WeTelemed will offer:
(1) a selection of experiences shared with members illustrating the inclusion/exclusion of women in Telemedicine,
(2) a specific survey designed to support the systematic collection of data on Telemedicine systems in place,
(3) a set of 10 questions to conduct on site interviews with women working in Telemedicine and TeleHealth and
(4) a selection of Telemedicine Online Training modules proposed by Universities and academies.

Particular attention will be given to women addressing other women's needs when living in remote areas, refugee camps or in areas of conflict where Telemedicine services may constitute an alternative to the local health centers, often non-operational in such conditions.

Special focus will be given to medical specialties such as gynecology, maternal and child health, dermatology, reproductive health, neurology, radiology, dermatology, infectious disease, emergency surgery and services where an increased number of female health care providers are more needed in some countries to deliver healthcare to women via Telehealth.
